Driving licence requirements in Slovenia

To be able to drive in Slovenia you need to be at least 18 years old and in possession of a full valid driving license in your country of residence. If the driving license is not written in Roman alphabet, you will need to present an International driving license together with your domestic driving license. A driving license with a photo is mandatory, otherwise you will need to present an International driving license.

In some cases, international driving license together with your domestic license may be a mandatory requirement for some suppliers and offers.

Tolls in Slovenia

Cars must be equipped with vignettes (stickers), if you drive on highways and motorways. Rented cars are usually already equipped with vignettes, please check upon arrival.

Driving in Slovenia

In Slovenia you will be driving on the right hand side of the road. Seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers. Children under 12 years old, not exceeding 1.50 m must be seated in a child safety seat and are not allowed to travel in the front passenger seat.

Alcohol limit requirements in Slovenia

Driving a rental car under the influence of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited. In case of insurance claims, while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be fully responsible for the damage to the rental car.

Winter equipment in Slovenia

The use of snow tyres or winter chains in Slovenia is mandatory from 15 November to 15 March.
